Amerigroup is an American health insurance and managed healthcare provider. The recipients include those with disabilities, seniors, low income families, federal employees and more. Their clients are in 26 states across the nation and they are the largest provider of healthcare for the public. The company provides publicly-funded health care program management, and their headquarters are in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They had 7080 employees in 2012, but that number is expected to have grown to somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000. They of jobs in a variety of areas that include marketing, communications, human resources, legal, finance and accounting, customer service, IT and network services and several other categories.

Amerigroup began as a company called AMERICAID Community Care. It was founded in 1994, and originally was set up to provide healthcare to children and mothers that received Medicaid. They became a publicly traded company in 2001 and expanded into the Medicare advantage plan just a few years later. Currently, they offer health care services through a variety of government programs that mostly targets the low-income population of the country. Anthem acquired this company in 2012 for $4.9 billion. As of 2012, their healthcare products include managed healthcare for uninsured children that are not eligible for Medicaid, managed healthcare for those receiving SSI, Medicaid managed healthcare in managed health care for uninsured adults and parents of Medicaid eligible children or those enrolled in the children’s health insurance program. They also provide Medicare health plans for low income Medicare beneficiaries.

The company has offices in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Iowa, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington DC. They offer Medicare plans in certain states such as Arizona, New Jersey, New Mexico, Tennessee, Washington and Texas. They reported $8.1 billion in revenue during the last fiscal year.
