About Arizona State University

Arizona State University, otherwise known as ASU, is a public research university with four campuses within the Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as four additional regional learning centers. It is one of the largest public universities in the United States and had over 73,000 students attending classes in 2018. 60,000 of them were undergraduates and 12,000 were post graduates. In 2018, ASU saw their largest ever freshman class with over 12,000 enrollments, which was a 12 percent increase from the previous year. The University had over 3400 people on their academic staff as of 2018 and employment opportunities included academic positions, support positions like maintenance and security, as well as student positions.

Arizona State University was originally the Territorial Normal School in Tempe, Arizona, and started on March 12, 1885. This was when the 13th Arizona Territorial Legislature passed an act to create a school to train teachers for the Arizona territory. The original campus was a four-room schoolhouse donated by some residents of Tempe. 33 students were in the first class. Over the years, the name changed several times including the Tempe Normal School of Arizona, the Tempe State Teachers College, and the Arizona State College. Now, ASU offers more than 250 majors for undergraduates and 100 graduate programs. Many of the education opportunities at ASU are designed for those who want to go into some form of teaching. Some of the programs offered include public policy, technology, liberal arts and sciences, design and arts, engineering, law, and business.

There are four Arizona State University campuses located in the Phoenix area. The first is known as the Tempe campus and it serves the majority of ASU students. There is also the Polytechnic campus, which sits on 600 acres and serves over 4500 students. The West campus serves more than 4000 students and occupies over 250 acres. Finally, there is the downtown Phoenix location, which is made up of 27 acres but serves over 11,000 students. Unlike other public universities with multiple campuses, ASU does not consider any one of these campuses its "main" campus. ASU has four other regional campuses throughout Arizona, and offers an online platform as well.
