Avon Products Incorporated is most commonly known as Avon, and it is a direct selling company with products in several different categories. It is been around for well over 100 years and is the fifth-largest beauty company in the world and the second-largest direct selling company in the world. The only company that beats Avon when it comes to direct selling is Amway. At last count, Avon had 6.4 million representatives. It is a multilevel marketing company, which means that people on a higher level get paid for sales by people who they directly bring in or supervise. As for the company itself, as of 2016, they had approximately 26,000 employees. Many of those positions include things like finance analysts, positions all along the supply chain, warehouse operators, engineers, forklift operators, material handlers, web development, and more.

The company was founded by David H McConnell, who was a door-to-door salesman selling books in New York. In September 1886, he decided to change his approach and product by selling perfume instead of books. The perfumes that he sold were much more popular, and he was so successful at it that he ended up starting a company on Chambers Street in New York in September 1886. In 1892, he changed the name of the business to the California Perfume Company after a suggestion from a business partner. Today, Avon still sells products within the beauty category, including bath products, hygiene products, and clothing, along with toys and cosmetics.

Avon sells products in more than 100 countries around the world. The largest market is actually Brazil, with the United States coming in second. Other places where Avon may be found include the Chinese market, which they entered in 1990. Avon is a publicly traded company the reported revenue of $5.73 billion for the 2017 fiscal year.
