This business actually began all the way back in 1898 when a cattle farmer named Warren A. Bechtel moved into the Oklahoma territory to build railroads. Bechtel and his family moved around the Western United States for the next several years at railroad construction sites and eventually moved to Oakland, California in 1904 where he worked for the Western Pacific Railroad. Eventually, Bechtel and his sons created the construction company pretty much how it exists today with divisions like infrastructure, mining and metals, nuclear, security, environmental in oil, gas and chemicals. It is unknown exactly how much Bechtel makes, but they ranked eighth on the list of America's largest private companies by revenue in 2017 and many experts estimate their income at $32.9 billion.
