Cerner an American company that primarily supplies health information technology solutions as well as other services and related hardware; they have widespread market share with more than 27,000 facilities around the world using their products. Their headquarters are in North Kansas City, Missouri, and as of 2017 they had over 26,000 employees. The company began in 1979 when Neal Patterson, Paul Gorup, and Cliff Illig decided to leave their former positions at Arthur Andersen and create PGI and Associates. It was renamed Cerner in 1984 when the first system came out. That first system was called PathNet. The company went public just a short time later in 1986, and the client base grew over the years to include some of the largest organizations in the country. Cerner was also doing research and development on a health network architecture system and had started distributing it by the 1990s. Neal Patterson, the cofounder and chief executive officer until recently, died on July 9, 2017. This company's primary and exclusive product line includes health information software.
Although Cerner is primarily in the United States, they have expanded around the world as well and have clients all over the world. In fact, the company has operations in more than 25 different countries. They are a publicly traded company that reported $5.15 billion in revenue in 2017 with revenue per share of $15.52. Their gross profit was $4.29 billion and they showed quarterly revenue growth of 5.9 percent.
