The current president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Clinic is Tomislav Mihaljevic. As of 2018, there were more than 52,000 people working for the Cleveland Clinic including 11,800 nurses and 3600 physicians as well as researchers. The organization also publishes the well-known and respected Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

The organization began from a small surgical practice started by Frank J. Weed on the west side of Cleveland. When Weed died, his practice was purchased by two assistants named Frank E. Bunts and George Washington Crile. Eventually they were joined by another person and move the practice to the Osborne building on Prospect Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Ohio in 1897. In 2017, the Cleveland Clinic had an operating income of $330 million and had 7.6 million patient visits as well as nearly 230,000 admissions.
