Cloudera is a software company based in the United States that provides a platform for data engineering, machine learning, analytics, and data warehousing that runs on the cloud. The started as an open source Apache project targeting enterprise class deployments of the same technology. Approximately half of the engineering output comes from the Apache licensed open-source projects. The company began in 2008 when three engineers from three large web companies (Yahoo, Facebook, and Google) decided to join up with a former executive from Oracle. All four had expertise and background in the type of cloud technology that Cloudera uses. Some of them were quite well known for creating innovative products at their respective companies, and all four had the expertise and experience to take the company to the next level. In 2009, Cloudera announced the availability of cloud air distribution for which they were able to raise a total of $45 million. Products include the Cloudera enterprise data hub, the analytics database, the operational database, Cloudera data science and data engineering, Cloudera essentials and much more.

The company is based in the United States and has been recognized with several awards including enterprise management 360 top 10 and the 2018 Microsoft partner the year. They also receive the award for the 2018 CRN 100 coolest cloud computing vendors and a 2018 cyber security excellence award. They are a publicly traded company the reported $411 million in revenue as of the 2017 fiscal year with revenue per share at $2.84.
