Their headquarters are in Midtown Manhattan in New York City, and they are a publicly traded company that can be found on the New York Stock Exchange. The company can trace its roots back to 1806 when William Colgate created a starch, candle and soap factory in New York City. The original name of the company was William Colgate and Company. However, after a heart attack, business slowed considerably until the 1840s when they began selling individually packaged soap which they followed up in just a few short years by Colgate toothpaste. Colgate was the first company to sell toothpaste in a tube. The company was ranked 184th on the fortune 500 list of 2018 for the largest US corporations.

In the 2017 fiscal year, Colgate-Palmolive reported $15.62 billion in revenue with revenue per share at $17.89. They also reported a gross profit of $9.36 billion.
