Con Edison is the shortened version of Consolidated Edison Incorporated. They are one of the largest public energy companies in the United States with more than $48 billion in assets. They have a number of energy services through the main company and subsidiaries. For example, they provide electric and gas service in New York City and throughout Westchester County in New York, they provide utilities to New York in northern New Jersey through Rockland Utilities Incorporated and other subsidiaries include Con Edison solutions, Con Edison development and Con Edison transmission. In 2015, revenues from electricity accounted for more than 70 percent of their sales while gas revenues were just over 13 percent. They have approximately 15,590 employees as of 2017 and some of the open positions may include trade ally managers, senior planning analysts, customer service representatives, senior attorneys, management Associates, corporate affairs managers, engineers and more. Their headquarters are in New York City.
Con Edison was founded in 1823 as the New York Gaslight Company. It was founded by a group of investors in New York. The company went public a year later and approximately 50 years after this IPO, six different gas companies combined to form the consolidated gas company. Today, Con Edison has the largest commercial steam system in the world as well as being one of the largest energy providers.
The company has operations almost exclusively in New York and New Jersey. They do not have any international operations, nor do they have operations outside of those areas. However, the areas that they serve are quite large and population compared to other energy companies.Con Edison reported revenue of $12.35 billion last fiscal year with revenue per share at $39.76. They had quarterly revenue growth of 3.6 percent and reported a gross profit of $6.11 billion.
