They are a private company that is still a family business and provide approximately half of all the foam cups and containers that are distributed worldwide. They recently acquired the Solo Cup company, which is based in Illinois and they have locations throughout the United States and around the world. As of 2017, Dart had over 15,000 employees. The company was founded in 1937 by William Dart as a machine shop. Originally, the company manufactured various steel products like key rings and tape measures. However, after Dart's son graduated from college and joined the company, they soon began to perfect the polystyrene molding process in begin producing insulated foam cups in 1960. The company was incorporated as Dart Container Corporation in 1960. Today, they produce foam products for food service including cups, bowls, containers, coolers, plates, and more. They also produce plastic cups and containers as well as some paper cups.
Dart Container has locations in 45 states in the US, as well as facilities in eight countries around the world. They have two locations in Canada including Toronto in Ontario, several locations throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, two locations in Mexico including one in Tijuana, as well as locations in Argentina and Brazil. Financial experts estimated revenue at $1.25 billion as of 2017.
