About EDMC
EDMC, or Education Management Corporation, operates post-secondary schools in the US and Canada. It is a for-profit operator that was founded in 1962. There are two divisions of schools that it runs: The Art Institutes and Brown Mackie College. At last count in 2013, EDMC had 23,000 employees, and reported student enrollment at 91,000 in 2015.
EDMC's headquarters are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It acquired Argosy Education Group in 2001 and South University in 2003. South University schools were re-branded as Brown Mackie Colleges a year later. EDMC first went public in 1996, raising $45 million for its IPO. The company was delisted in 2006 but went public a second time in 2009, raising $330 million. Since then, enrollment in the schools has declined, forcing EDMC to go private again as of 2014, and also to close or sell its schools. As of October 2017, the Dream Center Foundation completed acquisition of all of EDMC's assets. The schools remain open, however, and continue to serve enrolled students.
