Figure Eight is an artificial intelligence company with headquarters in San Francisco. During the last funding round, they raised $58 million in venture capital. The company uses human intelligence to train and create machine learning algorithms. This helps to improve AI functions like search results, photo approval and perform customer support. The technology is used in a variety of industries including self-driving vehicles. As for 2017, they have somewhere between 100 and 150 employees. They have a limited number of open positions available, and some of the ones that are currently open at the time of this description include demand general managers, controllers, quality assurance managers, network operations engineers and more.

The company was founded as Dolores Labs in 2007 by Lukas Blewald and Christopher Van Pelt. After realizing that some tasks simply could not be automated, they conducted an experiment using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk marketplace. The company grew quickly and was renamed CrowdFlower in 2009. Today, the company works with a number of well-known brands including Twitter, Facebook, Google, Autodesk, Mozilla, eBay, Esty, Toyota and Cisco Systems. The company’s technologies include things like their Real Time Foto Moderator which checks for inappropriate content and their machine learning system called Rich Data Summit. Some of the things that they focus on include enterprise-ready training data, machine learning expertise and much more.

Figure Eight only has the single location in San Francisco, but they do have customers all over the world. They are also partnered with some major technology companies like Amazon, Google, IBM, Swagbucks, instaGC, Boizu, Memolink and Superrewards. The company went through a series of funding rounds, raising $1.2 million in 2009 and $5 million in 2010. Their final funding round was Series C funding which ended in September of 2014 with $12.5 million raised.
