About GEICO
Geico Insurance Company is an American insurance company that is headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland. It is the second-biggest insurance company providing auto insurance after State Farm and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Geico actually stands for the Government Employees Insurance Company, although now they provide insurance to anyone who needs it. Geico sells insurance over the phone, online, and through local representatives. They are well-known for their television commercials, and currently have over 38,000 employees, not counting the independent contractors who work as insurance agents. Some of the open positions you might find include auto damage trainees, auto damage adjusters, senior.net developers, information technology positions, and more.
The company began in 1936 when Leo Goodwin Senior set it up to provide insurance to government employees and their families. Goodwin had worked for USAA as an insurer since 1925, and had experience providing insurance to military personnel. However, it was almost impossible to rise up through the ranks at USAA because the positions were filled by people who had been in the military. So, Goodwin decided to set up his own company providing federal employees with insurance. Geico provides a number of insurance products, but they specialize in auto insurance. They also have commercial vehicle insurance, motorcycle insurance and some other products as well.
The company has 16 regional offices across the United States as well as their corporate headquarters, which is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. Some of the states and cities where they have a presence include Tucson, Arizona; San Diego, California; Seattle, Washington; Buffalo, New York; Macon, Georgia; and Indianapolis, Indiana.
