Lear Corporation is a well-known American company in the business of distributing and manufacturing automotive seated and electrical distribution systems. Their headquarters are located in Southfield, Michigan, and they were 148th on the 2018 Fortune 500 list. They have multiple manufacturing facilities located in North America, as well as around the globe with two major divisions including automotive seating and electrical. Lear Corporation began as the American Metal Products Company in 1917. The original location of this company was Detroit, Michigan, and it was originally creating assemblies for aircraft automotive. However, throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Lear made a number of acquisitions that allowed it to grow considerably. Eventually they became focused on two specific areas: automotive seating and electrical. The company made a major acquisition in 1999 with United Technologies and the most recent activity was in February 2017 when the organization acquired an automotive seating business from Grupo Antolin. This was a $286 million deal that was paid in cash.
