Mary Kay sells almost exclusively beauty products to people through direct selling methods and independent contractors that act as distributors. The company was founded by a real Mary Kay in 1963 and has grown considerably since then. There are now over 3 million salespeople working for Mary Kay worldwide, as well as more than 5000 corporate employees. The company was founded in September 1963 in Dallas, Texas. The founder of the company was Mary Kay Ash. The way that the company works is through a multilevel marketing model where a person above another distributor in the pyramid gets paid a commission on that distributor's sales. People bring in their own distributors, in addition to doing their own sales in order to make as much money as possible.
