The clinic began when William Worrall Mayo immigrated from Lancashire, England, to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1863. At the time, he was an examining surgeon for the military. By 1964, several family members were serving in leadership roles around the community.
The Mayo Clinic has three main campuses, including the one in Minnesota. There are also campuses in Arizona and Florida. There are three states where the Mayo Clinic health system is in effect including Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. This is a not-for-profit company and the last funding they received was a $142 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.
