About McDonald's
McDonald's Restaurants is a well-known fast food company based in the United States. It began in San Bernardino, California, starting with a hamburger stand and then expanding into other food products. The business was purchased in 1955 by Ray Kroc from the previous owners, Richard and Maurice McDonald, and soon began to change its business model to a franchise model. Until 2018, the headquarters of McDonald's was in Oak Brook, Illinois, but McDonald's has since moved its global headquarters to Chicago.
McDonald's is the world's largest restaurant chain when you go by revenue and they are present in more than 100 countries with tens of millions of customers daily. They are also the second largest private employer after Walmart, with over 235,000 employees as of 2017. Positions include restaurant managers, cashiers, prep cooks, fry cooks, hamburger makers and line workers, drive through attendance, maintenance workers and much more.
McDonald began in 1940 after two siblings started the first McDonald's in San Bernardino, California. The business was sold a few years later and changes were made to modernize it and turn it into the hamburger restaurant that it is today, including franchising. McDonald's products include a variety of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches, chicken products like nuggets and chicken strips, frozen and cold drinks, coffee drinks, French fries, soft drinks and a whole lot more.
McDonald's is a public traded company that has more than 35,000 locations around the world including locations like Costa Rica, the United States, Ireland, South Wales, Australia, San Juan, Canada, Puerto Rico, and many more. As of the 2017 fiscal year, McDonald's reported revenue of $22.8 billion within operating income of $9.55 billion. McDonald's also reported that they had an increase in total assets, for a total of $33.80 billion.
