About RadioShack
RadioShack was an American retailer that sold batteries, radios, cell phone accessories, and other technology products. Today, over 400 independently owned stores operate under the RadioShack name, and the RadioShack website is still active.
RadioShack started in 1921. Theodor and Milton Deutschmann wanted to provide equipment for the amateur or ham radio field. By the 1960s, "Radio Shack" had expanded to nine stores. It was purchased by Charles Tandy, who was the owner of the Tandy Corporation. The Tandy name was dropped in 2000, when the company became RadioShack Corporation. RadioShack filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and was subsequently purchased by General Wireless Operations. General Wireless announced bankruptcy in March of 2017, but exited bankruptcy in October of that same year. General Wireless was allowed to retain RadioShack's warehouse, website, and some stores.
Until its decline, RadioShack had a global presence, in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK.
