The company previously operated under the brand Ross Dress for Less and is the largest retailer of its kind. The first Ross Department Store opened in 1950, owned by Morris Ross. Morris Ross would reportedly spend 85+ hours each week doing all of his own buying and bookkeeping. In 1958, Morris sold the business to Bill Isackson, considered the founder of Ross Stores. Isackson expanded the business by adding five more stores. In 1982, a group of investors purchased the stores and began an aggressive expansion. There are now over 1,400 Ross Stores across 37 States in the US.
