Rutgers University

Rutgers University is the State University of New Jersey and commonly goes by the name Rutgers. It is an American public research university and is the biggest higher education organization in the state. As you might imagine, many of the positions within Rutgers University are teaching positions, although not as many as some universities because of tenure and other considerations from the organization having been around for so long. However, the academic staff of Rutgers University is extremely large. They have over 4300 academics on staff, and they also employ more than 6700 administrative staff.

Rutgers was founded in the 1700s, about 20 years after what is now known as Princeton University was established. It was named Rutgers College in honor of a soldier in the Revolutionary war - Colonel Henry Rutgers. The school was named after this Colonel because he epitomized the Christian values that they were trying to model the University upon. Rutgers donated a bell that still hangs today and a $5000 bond to the University. The $5000 bond that was originally donated when the school was known as Rutgers College would be worth more than $100,000 today.

Rutgers University has over 68,000 students. Over 49,000 of those are undergraduates, while more than 19,500 are postgraduates. They most recently received an endowment of $1.2 billion in 2017 and have an operating budget of $4.4 billion as of the 2017 to 2018 school year. The current president of Rutgers University is Robert L. Barchi.
