Southwest Airlines was founded in 1966 by Herbert Kelleher and Rollin King. It was incorporated as Air Southwest Company a year later but it would take several years until the airline began actually scheduling flights from Love Field in Dallas. The company officially became Southwest Airlines in the 1970s and they began expanding their flights, journeying to neighboring cities and states throughout Texas and the Southwest. In 1979, Southwest began traveling to other states for the first time. It wasn't until the 1990s when service to the east and southeast were added to the route. The major cities that Southwest Airlines services include Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Diego, San Jose, Austin, and Tampa.

Southwest Airlines is not an international company and they only travel within the United States. They were recently in the news for creating a brand-new interior that they call the Heart Interior. It includes the widest seat ever in a Boeing 737, providing additional space for passengers. All new 737 through 800 and 737 Max aircraft will have these seat. As for revenue, Southwest reported a total revenue of $21.2 billion in 2017.
