Spectrum Health

Spectrum Health is the major health organization in West Michigan and it is a nonprofit, integrated, and managed health care system. The official name is the Spectrum Health System, and it has a number of subsidiaries, which include treatment facilities, urgent cares, and hospitals. There are also physician position practices within the system to serve Western Michigan as well. Spectrum Health is the largest employer in Western Michigan with over 25,000 people working for them. 3200 of these employees are physicians. They also have 2300 volunteers. Some of the employment opportunities include administrative, transportation, parking and transport, ambulatory medical positions, semi-truck drivers, ambulatory MRI positions, radiology positions and much more.

The company was incorporated on September 19, 1997, when Butterworth Health System and Blodgett Memorial Medical Center merged to become the largest and most comprehensive healthcare organization in the western part of Michigan. This was after a great deal of planning and some legal battles. Richard C. Breon was the first chief executive officer and created an integrated health system for the first time. The program integrated medical services, behavioral health, addiction, and social services together into one system in 2011. Services that Spectrum Health provides include inpatient and outpatient services at a number of locations throughout Michigan.

This organization has a number of hospitals including the spectrum health Butterworth Hospital in downtown Grand Rapids, the Spectrum Health Helen DeVoss Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, the Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center, and several others. They also have a number of other facilities including Spectrum Health Continuing Care, which is a post-acute services rehabilitative and long-term home and residential care services organization. They had a reported $23.13 million in revenue as of the 2017 fiscal year.
