Target

Target Corporation is the second largest department store in the United States after Walmart. Their headquarters are located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and as of 2018 the company was a part of the S&P 500 index. Target operates 1822 stores throughout the United States. They have several different retail formats including SuperTarget, City Target, and Target Express, as well as the regular discount store, Target. As of February, 2018, Target employed 345,000 people. The majority of these people worked in the approximately 1800 retail stores located throughout the United States. Employment opportunities include cashier, restocking, customer service, management, and more. Target also has a number of positions in their corporate office as well.

Target was founded by George Dayton in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but prior to that the company was known as Goodfellow Dry Goods, which opened in June 1902. The first Target store was open in Roseville, Minnesota, in 1962. The parent company underwent several name changes including the Dayton Corporation in 1967 and the Dayton Hudson Corporation in 1969 with the merger of Dayton and the JL Hudson Company.

Target sells a variety of household and health goods including beauty products, bedding, clothing, electronics, jewelry, lawn and garden, furniture, pet supplies, footwear, small appliances and other household goods and toys and games.

AS of 2018, Target does not operate outside of the United States. In 2017, Target purchased an Internet-based grocery delivery company called Shipt for $550 million. This is intended to allow them to compete with same-day grocery delivery. In the 2017 fiscal year, Target reported revenue of $73.5 billion.
