Toys "R" Us

Toys "R" Us is an international toy, video game, baby, and clothing retailer that is been around for more than 50 years with its headquarters in Wayne, New Jersey, in the New York metropolitan area. Although there are still positions available with this company, they filed for bankruptcy on September 18, 2017, in the United States, as well as bankruptcy protection in Canada. All of the toy stores in the United Kingdom were closed in 2018, and shortly after that, the announcement was made that the US toy stores would follow suit. All 735 locations in the United States are now sold. The company had 64,000 employees before the liquidation.

This toy store was founded by Charles Lazarus in June 1947. It began as a children's furniture store in 1948, but became its current incarnation in 1957. Eventually, Lazarus shifted focus and began offering toys instead of furniture because the toys were so much more popular. For more than 65 years, Toys "R" Us has operated around 800 stores in the United States and 800 outside of United States. Their products include toys for all ages, clothing products, baby products, video games, and various other targeted items for children.

In 1984, Toys "R" Us launched a worldwide presence when the first wholly-owned store in Canada began. The first licensed store was in Poland, and since then Toys "R" Us has operated more than 140 licensed stores in 35 countries outside of the United States. The last funding type that they had was debt financing and that came to $3.2 billion over two rounds in September of 2017.
