About UPS

The United Parcel Service, or UPS, is a multinational package delivery and supply chain management company located in the United States. Their headquarters is located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. UPS had a total of 434,000 employees in 2016, and the jobs held by the employees ranged from logistics to delivery, packaging facilities, administration, marketing, and positions within the UPS store - which is an office supply store and copy center located in most major cities in the United States. There are currently 3000 retail locations of the UPS store, and there are also positions available within the over two dozen acquisitions that the company has made in the past decade.

The company was founded in 1907 by James Casey and Claude Ryan under the name of the American Messenger Company. They started out in Seattle, Washington, but moved company operations in headquarters to the south. At the time, deliveries were made on foot and bicycles. The first delivery vehicle was a Model T Ford acquired in 1913, and the business was renamed the United Parcel Service in 1990. Like FedEx and the United States Postal Service, UPS has approximately one-third of the majority market share of customers sending packages. They've grown considerably in recent years with subsidiaries like the UPS Store, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, UPS Airlines, and UPS Professional Solutions.

The United Parcel Service does not operate outside of the continental United States. However, that does not mean that they do not deliver to other parts of the world. They have partnerships which allow them to deliver anywhere on the globe. In 2017, UPS reported total revenue of $69 billion with $79.54 revenue per share. That made their quarterly revenue growth come in at just under 10 percent.
