Vivint Smart Home is a smart home service of provider in the United States and Canada. The company provides a number of different smart home services to customers who live in those two regions including communication networks, hubs, smart device connectivity, consultation, installation and more. The company was acquired by the Blackstone group in 2012 for more than $2 billion. They had been recognized as one of the top 50 most innovative companies in the world in 2017. Vivint has over 11,000 employees with positions such as field service technicians, smart home professionals, field service managers, project managers, salespeople, operations professionals and many more. Their headquarters are in Provo, Utah.
Vivint was cofounded in 1999 by Keith Nellesen and Todd Pedersen as a PX alarm security solutions in Provo, Utah. At the time, the company simply sold and installed security systems. However, after becoming a home security monitoring service, the company began retaining customers and soon expanded to Canada. After acquiring a central alarm monitoring station in St. Paul, Minnesota, a new corporate headquarters in Provo, Utah was created and eventually the name was changed. The company provides security systems, fire detection systems, home automation systems, and communication tools as well as photovoltaics and other solar support systems.
As of the beginning of 2018, Vivint had more than 1.3 million customers in the United States and Canada, which is a fairly significant portion of the market share when it comes to smart home integration. It was listed among the most innovative companies in 2017 by Fast Company's magazine. The 2017 reported revenue for this publicly traded company was $290.97 million with the revenue per share of $2.52. They also showed quarterly revenue growth of 10.7 percent and quarterly earnings growth of 263.8 percent. The gross profit reported for Vivint was $37.75 million.
