Volt was founded more than 60 years ago as a small technical writing business. In the beginning, the company provided technical documentation for projects like the Atlas Missile Project, but soon began to expand by providing personnel to a variety of different companies. There was a great deal of technology implementation in the 1970s and 1980s as well.

For the 2017 fiscal year, they reported $1.06 billion in revenue with revenue per share at $50.55. The gross profit was reported was $187.4 million with a net income of $9.97 million.
